One of the big splash moves that the Los Angeles Rams made this offseason was the free-agent signing of All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. His addition is expected to further solidify their defensive front.
With the team offseason workouts underway, it has given Suh a chance to gain some cohesiveness on the field with his new team. According to Gary Klein of LA Times, his new teammate Michael Brockers says that Suh has quickly fit into the mix:
“He’s just trying to find where he fits in this defense,” Brockers said, “and I think he’s jelling in perfectly.”
This is certainly a promising sign given that the Rams are hoping that Suh can play a major part along the defensive line next to Brockers and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. The fact that he has quickly fit in with his new teammate is quite encouraging toward him working toward fulfilling that major role as a game-changer on the defensive line.
Although Suh saw a drop in production this past season, he is still one of the league’s most dominant players at his position. He is a major threat as a pass rusher that could see him pick it back up next season due to the talent around him. He also has a proven track record earning five Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro nods, and two Second-Team All-Pro selections.
There may be questions about when Donald will return to the fold due to his contract situation, but the easiness that Suh has shown in fitting into the mix should make it more smooth once the four-time Pro Bowler comes back. In the meantime, the offseason will be used to help the 31-year-old get further acclimated to his new surrounding in the defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Wade Phillipe.
