Matthew Stafford put together a strong showing in his return to the field for the Los Angeles Rams, leading them to a 30-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. Now, heading into Week 2, Stafford has already been a part of some fun off-the-field rumors regarding his potential involvement with a popular TV show.
Stafford was rumored to be one of the featured signal-callers in season two of the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback.” The series is produced by Peyton Manning and featured Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and Philadelphia Eagles backup Marcus Mariota, who was on the Atlanta Falcons, in season one.
Stafford was approached about season one and declined. But now, he spoke about the potential of appearing on the second season of the hit show.
“To be honest with you, I’ve had discussions with those guys,” Stafford revealed. “I’m not sure there is going to be a season. I’m not sure there isn’t. I’m not sure. I’m just more focused on the San Francisco 49ers to be honest with you than anything going on off the field so I’ll just leave it at that, I guess.”
Stafford kept it simple when asked if he would participate in a potential season two if it ultimately goes that route.
“Possibly,” The Rams star said.
Rams fans would certainly be excited to watch their quarterback be one of the featured players in season two. Stafford has proven himself to be an interesting media figure alongside his wife with appearances on her podcast and has been a fan favorite throughout his career with the Detroit Lions and Rams.
He and the Rams are off to a great start this season, so if Stafford can continue playing well, it will make season two of Quarterback a must-watch regardless of who the other two signal-callers will be.
Rams signing Brett Rypien
The Rams are turning to a new backup for Stafford after rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list for a non-disclosed reason. Instead, fourth-year quarterback Brett Rypien will sit behind Stafford on the depth chart for the time being.
Rypien has appeared in eight games over his first three seasons, all for the Denver Broncos. He has four career touchdown passes and eight career interceptions while starting in three of his eight games. He has thrown for 778 yards over the course of his NFL career and will now learn behind one of the league’s best.
