The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) announced Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been voted as the NFL’s MVP for the 2025 season.

It’s Stafford’s first time winning the award, and he is also the favorite to take home the Associated Press MVP award, which is what is recognized as the actual one.

At the age of 37, Stafford had a career year for the Rams, leading the NFL in passing yards at 4,707 and passing touchdowns at 46 while only throwing eight interceptions. That came after he missed all of training camp with a back injury and wasn’t certain to be on the field for the start of the regular season.

Not only was Stafford on the field, but he didn’t miss a game in 2025 and turned in the best year of his future Hall of Fame career. The Rams were the No. 1 offense in the league by many metrics and have since advanced to the NFC Championship game as Stafford looks to secure his second Super Bowl.

Regardless of what happens in the playoffs though, it was a special regular season for Stafford. He broke the record for most consecutive touchdowns without an interception at 28 and was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month in both November and December/January and the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 18.

While Stafford’s future with the Rams and in the NFL was uncertain a year ago at this time, he has shown that he is still at the top of his game and has some good seasons left in him.

Rams’ Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua win PFF awards

Stafford and Puka Nacua were also recognized by Pro Football Focus for their outstanding seasons with the Rams. Stafford was named their MVP while Nacua was named their Offensive Player of the Year in their annual end-of-season awards.

That means Stafford has won the PFF and PFWA MVP awards, with only the actual AP MVP award to go. That will be announced at the NFL Honors show next month before the Super Bowl.
