With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Los Angeles Rams announced the recipients of their end-of-the-year team awards for the 2024 season.
Matthew Stafford received the Daniel F. Reeves Memorial Award for the second consecutive year, which is given to the team’s most valuable player.
Stafford has completed 340 of 517 pass attempts for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns against eight interceptions in 16 games. He got off to a slow start this season — largely due in part to the injuries surrounding the offense — but bounced back to lead the Rams to a 9-2 record over their last 11 games.
Earlier this season, Stafford moved into 10th on the NFL’s all-time passing touchdowns list. He also ranks ninth all-time for completions and 10th in passing yards.
Jared Verse earned the Carroll Rosenbloom Memorial Award, which is given to the team’s rookie of the year. Entering Week 18, the Florida State leads all first-year players in pressures (74), hurries (53) and quarterback hits (18).
Verse is currently tied for second in tackles for loss (11) and fifth in sacks (4.5). League-wide, the 24-year-old is tied for second in hurries (53), fourth in pressures (74), sixth in fumble recoveries (two) and 26th in tackles for loss (11).
Tyler Higbee received the Carl Ekern Spirit of the Game Award, which is given to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, ethic and commitment to his teammates.
Higbee was also the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, which goes to a player who is a role model of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage.
Higbee missed nearly a year while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, as well well as a torn ACL and MCL during the Rams’ playoff loss to the Detroit Lions in January 2024. He made his return to the field in Week 16, which saw him catch a touchdown against the New York Jets.
The veteran has been praised by coaches and teammates for his resilience throughout his lengthy rehabilitation process. Despite being absent for most of the season, he has remained a leader and valuable contributor to the Rams.
Higbee continues to make a big impact in the community as well, he purchased gifts for multiple families this holiday season.
Rams resting starters in Week 18
With the NFC West title already clinched, the Rams will rest several regulars in their Week 18 finale against the Seattle Seahawks.
The group includes Stafford, Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, Kyren Williams, Alaric Jackson and Kevin Dotson. Rob Havenstein will also miss the game due to a shoulder injury.
