Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is coming off the best season of his 17-year career, and he was rewarded for it by taking home his first NFL MVP award.
Stafford led the NFL by throwing for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns with just eight interceptions while leading the Rams to a 12-5 record and a trip to the NFC Championship Game. They unfortunately did not make the Super Bowl, but that was no fault of their quarterback as he continued to play great football in the postseason.
While MVP is the biggest award in the NFL, Stafford took home a lot of hardware for his season as he earned Pro Bowler and First Team All-Pro selections while also being named the PFWA and PFF MVP.
Even as good as he still is though, Stafford took some time to mull over his future at the end of the Rams’ season. As he gets set to turn 38, the quarterback wasn’t sure how much longer he wants to continue playing.
Both Sean McVay and Les Snead made it clear that they want Stafford back though, and it appears they are getting their wish. During his MVP speech, Stafford announced that he will be returning for the 2026 season with hopes of getting the Rams back to the Super Bowl:

This is obviously great news for the Rams as there weren’t exactly other quality quarterback options in free agency or the draft.
They will be returning all of their key players in 2026, giving Stafford a solid chance to chase another Super Bowl and add to his Hall of Fame resume.
The Rams had the No. 1 offense in the league in 2025, so it will be fun to watch how they evolve and get even better in 2026 with Stafford and McVay leading the way.
Rams’ Les Snead wants to make most of time with Matthew Stafford
With Matthew Stafford deciding to return for another season with the Rams, general manager Les Snead made it clear that the franchise will do everything in their power to maximize their time with the quarterback to win another Super Bowl.
“If Matthew [Stafford] decides to come back, there will be an element … let’s definitely make the most of the time we have with Matthew. The type of season that he showed he had, there’s only so many of those left,” Snead recently said.
