Through two weeks, no team in the NFL looks as complete as the Los Angeles Rams. Not only has the defense been completely suffocating, helped by the additions of Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, and Ndamukong Suh, but the offense has been stellar as well led by Jared Goff.
After a questionable rookie year, Goff took a huge leap forward during the 2017 NFL seasoon and already seems to be doing the same early on in Year 3. His development has undoubtedly stood out to Peters, whose history with Goff goes back to college as Pac-12 rivals with Peters at the University of Washington and Goff at Cal.
Peters recently spoke about Goff’s growth, saying his desire to prove he is among the league’s elite quarterbacks helps the team as a whole, according Clarence Dennis of TheRams.com:
“To see how [QB] Jared [Goff] has taken off this year and to see him make the transition from me playing against him in college… to see how hungry he is to go out there and prove he is one of the top quarterbacks in this league — it helps us.”
So far, Goff has been great, doing exactly what the team needs him to do. He is third in the NFL in yards per attempt and ninth in passing yards while also ranking seventh in total quarterback ratinig. He only has three touchdowns so far, but Todd Gurley has a lot to do with that.
There was a time when Goff was considered the problem for the Rams offense and many viewed him as a bust after just one year, but those thoughts are long gone. The arrival of head coach Sean McVay, Gurley’s emergence, and Goff’s hard work have all combined to thrust him into the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks and as Peters noted, that takes the Rams to an even higher level.
