The Los Angeles Rams made a serious impression around the league during the 2017 NFL season as they went 11-5 and won their first NFC West division title in over a decade. The Rams surpassed preseason expectations and are looking like a legitimate Super Bowl threat heading into the 2018 NFL season.
Los Angeles has several key free agent decisions to make in the offseason, but have already made a splash as they have agreed to terms on a deal for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters. Peters, who has established himself as one of the NFL’s best defensive backs, gives Los Angeles a legitimate shutdown corner in the secondary.
In an appearance on NFL Total Access, Peters said he is expecting a victory against his former team led by Patrick Mahomes when they meet during the 2018 NFL season as transcribed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
I’m expecting turnovers and I’m expecting a win. He know how to give me the ball. He know how to give me the ball.”
Peters is a ballhawk who has a knack for generating turnovers, something that the Rams had been lacking despite a solid defensive unit. The cornerback, under Wade Phillips, is a boon for a Los Angeles squad that needed to address their cornerback depth with Trumaine Johnson set to hit the open market.
With Peters now in tow, the Rams will have several decisions to make in free agency and during the draft. However, this move is a clear sign that the franchise is ready to push all its chips in and go on a serious playoff run.
