The Los Angeles Rams kickstarted the offseason with the acquisition of Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marus Peters. Now on the same day that the Rams managed to add Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib, they fortified their unit with some more veteran talent.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Los Angeles signed former Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields:

The addition of Shields undoubtedly adds even more depth to an already formidable unit. Furthermore, he brings a championship pedigree after winning Super Bowl XLV with the Packers.
Shields had been one of the most reliable cover corners in the league during his seven-year stint in Green Bay. Unfortunately, the former Pro Bowler was released prior to the 2017 NFL season after dealing with a rash of concussions. As a result, he took the year off to recover and is now looking to make his comeback in Los Angeles.
Needless to say, he will be joining some talented company in Peters and Talib. While both aforementioned players are poised to start Week 1, Shields can compete for quality time as a reserve with cornerback Kayvon Webster still recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Meanwhile, the move also essentially eliminates any possibility of the Rams keeping cornerback Trumaine Johnson around. Johnson is expected to have plenty of suitors now that the secondary landscape has shifted in favor of Los Angeles.
