Rams News: Los Angeles Signs Dan Orlovsky To One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Rams made some healthy veteran upgrades at several key positions to help balance the youth on this team. Their moves have seemingly been constructed with the development of Jared Goff in mind as he enters his second season.

However, should Goff not prove himself as a viable option at quarterback, the Rams are confident that backup Sean Mannion can step up to the plate. Now, it seems another name has been added to that list with the signing of Dan Orlovsky, according to Jason Romano of Spectrum Sports:

“In the big picture, 7 months isn’t a long time. But for me, the last 7 months have felt like forever. I’ve had football in my life since I was 9, and the past 7 months, like I wrote back in the spring, I hadn’t had it. That time allowed me to truly look down into my heart, and my, faith, and see where I placed Jesus. It challenged me, daily. It made me ask questions I never had before, and find answers maybe I didn’t like. In the last 24 hours, football and I have reconnected, as I have agreed to play this season with the L.A. Rams.”

Orlovsky brings a veteran presence perhaps where the Rams may need it most at quarterback. Although Goff is the clear cut starter, Orlovsky’s experience as a 12-year veteran in this league could prove to be valuable for Goff’s development.

Regardless of Goff’s hold on the starting job, head coach Sean McVay let it be known during offseason training activities that the best quarterback will play. Should Goff not prove to be a viable option at quarterback, do not be surprised to see the Rams call in the next player up for the 2017 NFL season.
