The Los Angeles Rams managed to dodge a bullet with the Tennessee Titans choosing Mike Vrabel as their new head coach rather than current offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. It would have been the second time a member of head coach Sean McVay’s staff had been poached after Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden hired former Rams’ quarterbacks coach Greg Olson as his new offensive coordinator.

As a result, it seems Los Angeles is now taking precautions for the inevitable departure of LaFleur. The Rams announced on their official Twitter that they have hired former UCLA offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch as a senior offensive assistant:

Fisch served as the Bruins’ offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2017 before taking over as the interim head coach following the firing of Jim Mora. Needless to say, he was instrumental in the development of quarterback Josh Rosen this past season, who now enters the 2018 NFL Draft as one of the best prospects.

However, Fisch’s coaching resume in college and the pros spans over 20 years. His last NFL stint came as offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013-14. That said, he will likely help McVay oversee all the intricacies of a Rams offense that scored more points per game than any other team in the league this season.
