The Los Angeles Rams offense enjoyed quite the resurgence in the 2017 NFL season. Part of their rebuild came during the offseason with the overhaul of a new receiving corps.
Among the notable performances came from wide receiver Cooper Kupp. While there is always uncertainty surrounding rookies coming into the league, general manager Les Snead was admittedly sold on Kupp before the start of the season, according to Kristen Lago of the team’s official website:
“I was personally probably sold on Cooper Kupp long before last year,” Snead said.
Snead’s comments may come as a bit of a surprise considering Kupp had largely been overlooked throughout the draft process. Despite being the most decorated wideout in FCS history, there were concerns as to whether the difference in skill level from the FBS attributed to those numbers. As a result, he slipped to the Rams with the 69th overall pick.
Needless to say, it was not long before he established himself as arguably the best receiver in his draft class. Kupp not only led all rookie wideouts in receptions (62) but he also paced the team with 869 yards. More importantly, it is clear that he has built a great rapport with quarterback Jared Goff.
That said, the expectations could not be higher for the Rams moving forward. Kupp will undoubtedly see an increased role next season regardless of how the team’s wide receiver situation plays out.
