The Los Angeles Rams’ surprising 2023 season is officially over meaning the team must now turn its attention to the offseason.
The Rams will have draft picks and cap space to use to bolster the roster, though head coach Sean McVay might have some extra trying to replace members on his staff. Every year, McVay loses members of his staff and this offseason is no different.
Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris finally appears in line to land a head coaching job as he has reportedly met with and is planning to meet with several teams about their vacant positions.
General manager Les Snead recently held his end-of-season press conference and gave a glowing review of Morris, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN:
“No. 1, I think we all know, [he’s a] great human being,” Snead said. “The guy is coded to respect everyone, to build a relationship with everyone no matter where you’re at in the organization. What’s awesome is as he does that, you just see the respect flow back in his direction. He’s coded for that. It’s a superpower that I think would help any organization.”
Snead added that any team that hires Morris would be getting a valuable member to their organization:
“He’s going to give any organization an edge just how collaborative he is,” Snead said. “It’s going to be an edge that most teams aren’t going to be able to compete with. I know this, he’ll be able to hire an unbelievable staff. Every coach who’s any good, who’s qualified, they’re going to want to work for Raheem. And I’m pretty sure there’ll be a lot of tampering charges because just about every player in the NFL’s going to text him and want to come play for him.”
Morris has been a popular head coaching candidate since he led the Rams defense during Super Bowl LVI and it sounds like he’ll finally get an offer that he deserves. The 2023 season is arguably his best one to date as he managed to take a young and inexperienced group and mold them into a solid unit over the course of the year.
Nothing seems imminent right now, but it sounds like Snead and company are bracing to lose Morris.
USC hires Rams defensive line coach Eric Henderson
McVay already has to replace one key member of the defensive coaching staff as former Rams defensive line and running game coordinator Eric Henderson was recently hired by USC to be their co-defensive coordinator.
