Although Odell Beckham Jr. tore his ACL prior to the Los Angeles Rams winning Super Bowl LVI, there is no doubt that he played a significant role in helping L.A. reach that pinnacle. He joined the team immediately after Robert Woods suffered his torn ACL and fit into the offensive scheme seamlessly.
Rams general manager Les Snead did not bring in Beckham Jr. as a replacement for Woods, though. The original plan was to have all three of their receivers — Woods, Beckham Jr. and Cooper Kupp — play alongside one another.
So now that Woods has been traded to the Tennessee Titans and Allen Robinson has been brought in to replace him, Snead is hopeful that Beckham Jr. will be ready to come back to the team and play alongside him and Kupp the way it was originally planned for Kupp and Woods, according to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“I think it’s a situation where, big-picture, conceptually, we’ve envisioned being similar but different circumstances to this year, where Odell’s ready to play,” Snead said. “We would definitely appreciate him being a part of that diversity of eligibles we were talking about and obviously coming in later in the season and finishing things off with him.”
Beckham Jr. remains a free agent, but he’ll undoubtedly have interest throughout the NFL. If the Rams want to bring him back, it may cost more than what they’d be willing to pay with Robinson and Kupp already on the books.
But if the two sides can agree on a reasonable contract, Beckham Jr. would be an incredible fit in the Rams offense. As of now, he’s slated to return sometime in the middle of the 2022 season, and the Rams have more than enough firepower to keep things afloat until he returns.
Given that Beckham Jr. has now suffered two ACL tears, he may be looking for the most lucrative deal on the market instead of the best fit. If that’s the case, the Rams may be outbid. But it remains to be seen what the priorities are for each side.
For Snead, he made it clear that he would be happy to have Beckham Jr. back in the mix. It’s just a question — as it always is — of if the money is right.
Von Miller explained decision to leave Rams
Von Miller was another free agent that the Rams put a high priority on bringing back. Ultimately, he wound up with the Buffalo Bills on a very lucrative contract. He explained that leaving the Rams was extremely difficult, but Miller promised himself he would only leave if he was walking into something special.
