It goes without saying that the Los Angeles Rams are all in on a Super Bowl run in the 2018 NFL season. While many have praised general manager Les Snead for being aggressive this offseason, there is speculation that the Rams have risked their future by putting all their eggs in one basket.

Los Angeles has a number of players whose deals will be up after this season. However, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, Snead is confident the team will be able to keep their talented core for years to come:

“We have plenty of space over the next two years to lock up these guys long-term and have this core together,” Snead said, “and that’s the goal.”

It is not surprising to see Snead so optimistic about the Rams’ ability to re-sign players. Los Angeles has more cap space than any other team over the next years beyond this season. More importantly, they had already proven themselves as one of the most promising, young teams in the league prior to their All-Pro acquisitions.

The Rams’ brass already gotten started on it after expressing their desire to get a deal done with wide receiver Brandin Cooks. They must also hammer out a long-term deal with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald at some point this offseason. Although safety Lamarcus Joyner is slated to play under the franchise tag this season, Snead is hoping to lock up all three players this offseason.

“In an ideal world, right?” Snead said. “You’d want to do that so you have your franchise [tag] available [next offseason] to keep those three players. But I do think the goal, too, is you should start from the beginning of, ‘We want to get those guys locked up. Let’s try to get something done.’”

Fortunately, the team has the benefit of beefing up their roster at a reduced cost for the upcoming season which will allow the front office to further examine which players are part of the long-term future.
