Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Leonard Floyd was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his Week 10 performance against the Seattle Seahawks.
Floyd bothered the Seahawks offensive line and Russell Wilson all afternoon as he was able to consistently generate pressure along the edge. Floyd racked up a season-high three sacks in the process, bringing his 2020 season total to seven.
The pass rusher was also able to capitalize on a botched snap that resulted in a recovered fumble for the Rams defense. Overall, Floyd helped hold the vaunted Seahawks offense to only 16 points.
It was Floyd’s best performance of the season and defensive coordinator Brandon Staley deserves some credit for scheming up ways to get the former first-round pick going. His time with the Chicago Bears was a disappointment given his draft pedigree, but so far it looks like he has found a home in Los Angeles.
Aside from the pressure in the pocket, Wilson found it difficult to find many throwing windows to his receiving corps as the Rams secondary was suffocating. Jalen Ramsey locked down DK Metcalf, holding him to only two receptions and 28 receiving yards, while Tyler Lockett was limited to five catches for 66 yards.
While Ramsey was locked into the most exciting matchup on the field, it was Darious Williams who was the star as he came up with two interceptions and a highlight pass break up in the end zone. Williams took advantage of a rare poor decision from Wilson to earn his first pick then later laid out in front of a pass intended for Greg Olsen to nab his second.
At 6-3, the Rams are now in a three-way tie with the Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals for first place in the NFC West. Hopefully Los Angeles will improve upon their record when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a tough Monday night matchup.
