The Los Angeles Rams defied the odds and beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 thanks largely in part to the stellar play of their defense. They were able to bounce back from their embarrassing season opener to shut Russell Wilson and company to just three points.
However, there was one carryover as cornerback Lamarcus Joyner suffered a broken toe during Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. However, that was not going to stop the third-year veteran from playing against the Seahawks in their home debut at the Los Angeles Coliseum according to Myles Simmons of Rams:
“I knew I had to be accountable to the defense, so I just kept my mouth closed and kept playing,” Joyner said. “I know this was an important game to us. If you think about 2014, that draft, how Coach Fisher gave up a pick for me, all that kind of stuff just ran in my mind.They’ve made a lot of sacrifices for me, so I can fight through something like this.”
While this is certainly shocking news, it should come as no surprise given that Joyner is recognized as one of the toughest, most passionate players on the team. He made headlines a few weeks back when he contemplated quitting football after learning he would not be starting opposite of Trumaine Johnson on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
As if playing 134 of the team’s 148 defensive snaps so far was not impressive enough, he was also ranked the highest at his position according to Pro Football Focus. Not surprisingly, Joyner fully intends to play this upcoming Sunday versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
