Rams News: L.A. Waives Steve Williams, Promotes Isaiah Johnson From Practice Squad

Just before the start of the season the Los Angeles Rams added former San Diego Chargers cornerback Steve Williams to the team for some extra secondary depth.

With the Rams dealing with some injuries at the cornerback spot in particular, the move made sense, but now the Rams are already moving on.

The team announced that they are waiving Williams and promoting defensive back Isaiah Johnson from the practice squad via TheRams.com:

The Los Angeles Rams waived CB Steve Williams and promoted DB Isaiah Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced today.

Johnson was signed to the Rams practice squad on Sept. 5, 2016.

Williams didn’t record any statistics for the Rams in their two games so far and even with this move, the Rams secondary is looking just fine and will probably be even better very soon.

E.J. Gaines has finally begun practicing and is now listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even if he doesn’t suit up this week, it won’t be long before he is on the field.

LaMarcus Joyner has also been playing with a broken toe, but has remained effective despite his injury. He may need a week or two to get back to full strength, but nothing has deterred him as of yet.

Johnson was an undrafted safety out of Georgia Tech in 2015. He spent last season on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, but was released right before the start of this season until the Rams picked him up for their own practice squad this year.
