The Los Angeles Rams put a focus on the running game this offseason, looking to get back to power, smashmouth football up front.

The team bolstered their offensive line with the addition of Jonah Jackson while also re-signing Kevin Dotson and bringing in a blocking tight end in Colby Parkinson.

Then in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams selected Blake Corum out of Michigan in the third round to pair with Kyren Williams in the backfield.

Williams is coming off a breakout season with the Rams but in today’s NFL, there are no true bell-cows and L.A. wants to keep him healthy by limiting his workload. With that being the case, Corum is a nice addition that will be able to come in and spell Williams so the Rams don’t lose a beat in the run game.

While drafting another running back could have upset Williams, he is taking a different approach and is excited to play alongside Corum and show off other parts of his game, via the Rich Eisen Show:

“So for me, it’s just living by that, just picking off what I did last year, being able to create more explosives in the run game, and also being able to create more explosives in the pass game. I’m super excited that we went to go draft Blake Corum, somebody who can run the ball very well and hopefully it allows me to get to the slot or allows me to just run routes out of the backfield so that I’m able to really showcase my skills that I have for this game.”

Corum has a very similar run style to Williams as Rams head coach Sean McVay recently discussed the similarities between the two. If the Rams can hit on Corum the same way they did with Williams, then they should be set at the running back position for years to come.

Rams rookie Blake Corum excited to build relationship with Kyren Williams

Getting drafted to a team that already has a star running back in place can’t be easy for Blake Corum, but he is taking the same approach as Kyren Williams and is excited to build a relationship with his new teammate.

“He’s a great running back,” Corum said. “He was the second-leading rusher in the NFL, so I know he’s going to help me get better. I’m going to push him to be the best version of himself, and it’s going to be a great tandem, great duo. I’m excited to actually get down there and create a bond and a relationship with Kyren. He’s a heck of a back.”
