Last year, the Los Angeles Rams selected wide receiver Jordan Whittington in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Whittington had a decent rookie season with 22 receptions for 293 yards, but now in his second season he has the opportunity for a larger role.

Whittington has been putting in the work to be prepared for a greater opportunity in 2025, but it’s not just physically where he is growing, but mentally. Whittington spoke about growing more on a football IQ level by learning from former Rams receiver Cooper Kupp and new receiver Davante Adams, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“I would say I’ve grown more on the football IQ side, just going through a full season, getting more familiar with the game at the NFL level, and having Cooper (Kupp) last year, and then now having Davante (Adams), those are two people that I’ve been able to pick their brains and get a lot of knowledge from them,” Whittington told theRams.com earlier this week. “So I think the transition from (year) one to (year) two, it definitely was great, and I could see that kind of throughout the OTAs, and stuff moving slower and just knowing more of the detailed stuff.”

Kupp and Adams are two of the best receivers of this generation so being able to learn from both is a blessing that many aren’t afforded and it should only make him a better player. And in the end, Whittington is excited to be able to contribute to this Rams team in any way he can:

“First, just the whole year was a blessing,” Whittington said. “We got to go through the ups and downs, have a great season. And, yeah, I’m just glad I got to contribute to the team. And I was happy to just to be here, because there was a point where I didn’t think that I would be in the NFL, and then now I’m here. So every rep, every practice, I got to take it and take advantage of the opportunities that I get. But yeah, just being able to help the team any way I could, that was a big goal for me.”

Adams and Puka Nacua will be the team’s starting receivers, but Whittington has the chance to carve out a real role for himself as he battles with Tutu Atwell for that third receiver spot.

Rams’ Tutu Atwell works out with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson

Of course, beating out Tutu Atwell will be no easy task for Whittington as Atwell knows he has the chance to be a bigger part of this Rams offense as well and is putting in the work this offseason to be able to take advantage of that opportunity.

A Miami native and Louisville graduate, Atwell was seen working out with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as he prepares for the upcoming season.
