The first virtual NFL Draft came and went and in one of the most unique draft experiences ever, the Los Angeles Rams came away with some players they hope can make up for the heavy roster turnover this offseason.
One of those players is former Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller, whom the Rams drafted in the sixth round. Although Fuller spent four years in Ohio with the Buckeyes and calls New Jersey home, he will not be intimidated by the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.
According to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com, Fuller calls Los Angeles his second home due to some family ties:
“I’m so excited to be an L.A. Ram,” Fuller said. “My brother (Devin) went to UCLA, got family out there, so really excited to be out there. It’s kind of like a second home to me.”
His uncle – the comedian Sinbad – his aunt and cousins reside in Chatsworth and won’t have to travel very far to see him play. While in school, he would visit during the spring and summer.
“Usually, whenever I had a break, I would go to my Jersey home, then spend half and half in Jersey and L.A.,” Fuller said. “Very accustomed to that area and can’t wait to get out there.”
Hopefully having family consistently cheering for him at Rams home games can help motivate Fuller, who should see some time on special teams in addition to backing up John Johnson III and Taylor Rapp at safety.
Fuller was a two-time captain in his time at Ohio State and was able to put up 20 solo sacks in both his junior and senior seasons. He also grabbed three interceptions and had eight pass deflections in total between his final two years, known for his toughness, work ethic and athleticism with the Buckeyes, something any football team can always use.
Of course, for every rookie there will be some difficulty in joining the team that recently drafted them due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Many players will have to stay home until their states lift any stay at home orders. In particular, Los Angeles has extended their stay at home order through at least May 15. Hopefully soon afterwards the Rams rookies, including Fuller, will be able to join the Rams and get to work for the 2020 NFL season.
