The Los Angeles Rams achieved their biggest win of the 2017 NFL season with a 35-30 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The matchup provided a bit of nostalgia for defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

Phillips had plenty of ties to the Dallas franchise after spending over three seasons as head coach of the Cowboys. He returned to AT&T Stadium for the first time since his unceremonious departure to help lead the Rams to a big-time win over his former team. Following the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones showed the utmost praise for Phillips and the defense, according to Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register:

“I want to give Wade Phillips his due. They came in and made adjustments,” Jones said. “They’ve drafted high and well. Against a lesser crew, we could have come back and shut the door. This is a big win for the Los Angeles Rams. This is a hurtful loss to us.”

The Rams defense struggled mightily to being the game, allowing the Cowboys to scored on their first four drives. However, Phillips’ adjustments at halftime allowed Los Angeles to outscore Dallas 19-6 in the second half.

Although the Rams defense has largely struggled as a whole so far, they have managed to make key plays with the game on the line. If Los Angeles can find a way to click on all cylinders, they have proven to be a formidable team to be reckoned with.
