Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff made his first career start this past Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
The Rams were ahead 10-0 for much of the game, but the Dolphins made a late comeback to spoil Goff’s debut, defeating Los Angeles 14-10.
While Goff did not turn the ball over in the game, he also did not complete a pass further than seven yards down the field throughout the course of the game.
Head coach Jeff Fisher was complimentary of Goff’s play on Sunday, particularly complimenting his ability to get his offense in and out of the huddle in a timely fashion.
Goff has a tough test ahead of him this Sunday as the Rams travel to the high powered New Orleans Saints. A good week of practice this week is essential for Goff as he gets ready for his second start.
According to Myles Simmons of TheRams.com, Fisher was really happy with how his quarterback looked in practice on Wednesday:
“Jared was lights out today, which is good to see,” Rams head coach Fisher said.
“Today, he was cutting it loose,” Fisher later added. “He’s got a really good feel for it. Last week was his first week as our starter and against that good defense. But, man, this week, so far after two days of practice, he’s putting it down the field and doing some good things. He’s in complete control of what we’re doing, so it’s good to see. It’s very encouraging.”
Goff added that he felt good airing the ball out, and that his teammates also had a good practice:
“Just letting it fly a little bit — throwing the ball around. It felt good,” Goff said of Wednesday’s session. “I thought everyone did a good job today. I thought we were really crisp. One of the sharpest practices I think we’ve had in a long time and it felt good.”
The Rams offense has put up 10 points or less in four straight games, which will most certainly not be enough against Drew Brees and the Saints offense.
