Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has been under a lot of scrutiny this season, as the Rams are once again heading for mediocrity.
After getting shutout in their season opener, Los Angeles bounced back to win three straight games and led their division at 3-1, leaving hope for optimism.
Since then they have lost six of seven games, putting them at 4-7 and just about out of the NFC playoff race. Fisher, who is now in his fifth season with the organization, has not won more than seven games in each of those seasons and has failed to reach the postseason in all of them.
Additionally, he has 163 career losses as a head coach which is two away from tying the all-time NFL record for losses by a head coach. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, Fisher is not concerned about losing his job though:
…I’ve never been satisfied with 7-9 or 8-8. I’ve had a number of winning seasons. I’m not concerned. I don’t look over my shoulder, like I’ve said over and over again. I’m not concerned about my job. I have a great relationship with [Rams owner Stan Kroenke]. He understands the difficulties that were placed on this organization as far as the move is concerned. And I’m moving forward optimistically with this team.”
Rams Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff recently said that it’s unfair to judge Fisher solely on wins and losses, so despite most people feeling Fisher’s job is in jeopardy he may be right to not be concerned.
In 22 seasons as an NFL head coach Fisher has reached the postseason just six times, made the Super Bowl just once and has never won a Super Bowl Championship.
