The Los Angeles Rams got a blast from the past recently after former assistant coach Dave McGinnis made some bold comments regarding the team’s current roster. McGinnis had essentially credited both himself and former head coach Jeff Fisher building the personnel that has enjoyed so much success in the 2017 NFL season.
While his claims may have been a bit of a stretch, there is one man who confirmed McGinnis’ notion. Not surprisingly, it was Fisher himself during an appearance on The Midday 180:
“I’m a huge fan of the Ram players,” Fisher. “They’re basically, I don’t want to say my players, but I had a lot to do with that roster. Left them in pretty good shape. And Sean, as he’s proven in this very short period of time, is an outstanding, young coach. And he’s got the offense rolling, which they needed.”
While the Rams had undeniable talent on their roster during the Fisher era, the difference between how it has been utilized by new head coach Sean McVay is night and day. Aside from superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald, the franchise’s first-round picks had largely floundered under Fisher’s tutelage up until his firing.
That said, he still forged a deep bond with many of the players that are on the current roster, which was well-noted in a number of documentaries over the last couple years. However, Los Angeles has since managed to become one of the most well-represented teams at the 2018 Pro Bowl with five selections.
