Los Angeles Rams sophomore edge rusher Jared Verse entered the season primed to enter superstar territory. The 24-year-old won Defensive Rookie of the Year and was named to the Pro Bowl last season, and was seen as the anchor of L.A.’s pass rush entering 2025.
He saw double and triple teams in the first two weeks of the season, preventing him from getting to the quarterback for his first sack of the season. But he finally broke through during last Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, forcing the first turnover of the year from Jalen Hurts.
The Rams star knew with all the attention he was getting, it was going to be more difficult to get home against opposing quarterbacks. But he also knew it bound to happen eventually, according to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“I mean, it was cool,” Verse said Thursday. “It’s just a matter of time until it happens. It’s kind of like a waterfall, once one little stone breaks, everything’s coming through. I’m not worried about that.”
The Rams defense has looked every bit as good as advertised outside of the second half against the Eagles. Even though Verse has one sack through three games, he is a major reason why. He is garnering significant attention from opposing offensive lines and opening up opportunities for others on the Rams defense to shine.
L.A. is at home to face the 3-0 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon. Their offense has been the primary reason for their hot start, led by surprise veteran quarterback Daniel Jones. Indianapolis ranks third in points per game and second in yards per game.
Verse is certainly looking to wreck that and force the Colts to at least their second punt of the season, as well as their first loss.
Matthew Stafford not overreacting to Rams loss to Eagles
The Rams suffered another tough loss to the Eagles in Week 3 after Joshua Karty’s potential game-winning field goal was blocked.
Karty had an opportunity to attempt the kick after Matthew Stafford led his team down the field and into range.
The veteran quarterback didn’t have the best game by his standards as he threw an interception on the opening drive and was off with his accuracy in general. He completed 19 of his 33 passes for a season-low 196 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite his struggles, Stafford said he is sticking to the same game plan and does not see the need to make any drastic changes.
