The career of Los Angels Rams quarterback Jared Goff may have gotten off to a rough start, but he is now the cornerstone of one of the most talented rosters in the league.

Goff followed up his disastrous rookie campaign by helping to lead the resurgence in Los Angeles over the next two seasons thanks to his rapid progression under head coach Sean McVay. The Rams had established themselves as a potential contender in 2017 before justifying all the hype that they had generated last offseason with a trip to Super Bowl 53.

The 24-year-old has certainly experienced his fair share of ups and downs thus far in his young career. It seems the lows have helped him not to take any of his recent success for granted.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Goff wants to make sure the Rams continue to progress each season:

“Way different. Way different,” Goff said. “Last year, being in that first round of the playoffs, playing the Falcons, the previous season we were 4-12, so you’re thinking, ‘OK, this is kind of fun, I like the playoffs, this is cool.’ And you go through it and you lose, and you’re like, ‘Wait, wait, I want to go back to that. That was fun, I shouldn’t have taken that for granted.’ This past season, you’re like, ‘OK, we belong.’”

Goff added that he feels fortunate to be on a team that has developed such a strong culture from the front office to the locker room.

“For me, personally, the best example is when we sign free agents, and we’ll talk to them about where they been, and the culture [in those places], and they’re like, ‘Dude, it’s nothing like this. It’s not even close,’” Goff said. “That’s where we sort of take a step back and try not to take it for granted. I understand I’m in a very fortunate situation, and I’m going to try and take full advantage of it.”

It is encouraging to see that Goff is not ready to settle on his merits just yet, despite all that he has accomplished in such a short span of time. There is no question that expectations are higher than ever both for him and the rest of the team moving forward.

Goff’s comments are certainly telling about how he feels regarding his future as he enters the fourth year of his rookie deal. It is clear that being in the right system has become of utmost importance to him and many other players in this league.
