The Los Angeles Rams finally found their footing again in their 37-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons to snap a three-game losing streak. Rams quarterback Jared Goff had a solid game to get back on track, throwing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a touchdown.
In a nice change of pace, the Rams were able to keep Goff off the turf. After being sacked four times by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, Goff was not sacked a single time by the Falcons.
According to Sam Farmer of the L.A. Times, Goff felt like that protection got him into a rhythm:
“It always feels good to get back on track,” quarterback Jared Goff said after the Rams’ 37-10 victory. “We were able to move the ball and find guys that were open, I felt protected really well and was able to find a rhythm. It just felt really good and felt like it should feel while we are on the field.”
Goff still could improve in his passing game as he finished with just a 59.5% completion rate on 37 attempts. All in all though, it is a large improvement over last week’s loss to the 49ers. Goff only completed 13 passes, none of which were converted for a touchdown in that one.
Although Goff has had games where he threw for more yards and touchdowns this season, the game against the Falcons was his only one in 2019 with two touchdown passes and no interceptions. Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks and Gerald Everett all had receptions of over 20 yards on the day, with Woods leading the way with 80 yards.
The Rams defense really shined throughout Sunday’s game as well as they sacked Matt Ryan five times and Cory Littleton recorded an interception. Ryan ended up not converting on a touchdown pass, but backup quarterback Matt Schaub did end up throwing one touchdown when the game was out of reach.
Also of note, Cooper Kupp had another quiet game. After coming off the bench against the Seattle Seahawks and totaling over 100 yards, Kupp has yet to have a game with more than 50 yards. It seems that Goff has been targeting Kupp less, but there is no telling why that may be. Hopefully, if Kupp and Goff can reconnect in the games to come, the offense can get rolling even more.
The Rams travel to London next week to take on the Cincinnati Bengals before heading into their Week 9 bye. The Bengals could be another chance for the Rams to sort things out as they have remained winless through 2019 so far.
