Since the Kurt Warner era ended, the St.Louis/Los Angeles Rams struggled for over a decade to find a long-term solution at quarterback. That changed when they traded up to the No. 1 overall pick in 2016 and selected Jared Goff, who has gone on to become one of the league’s best young quarterbacks under head coach Sean McVay.

Goff is now in his third full season as the Rams’ starter and now has over 10,000 career passing yards, hitting the milestone during Sunday’s win against the New Orleans Saints.

After struggling mightily in his rookie season under then-coach Jeff Fisher, Goff blossomed under the innovative play-calling of McVay. Goff has reached the playoffs and the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons under McVay, including making it to the Super Bowl a year ago.

He has done so surrounded by a talented arsenal of weapons including wide receivers Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp, tight ends Gerald Everett and Tyler Higbee and running back Todd Gurley. General manager Les Snead is responsible for all those acquisitions. Only Higbee and Gurley were drafted while Fisher still had influence over personnel decisions.

In addition to his yardage milestone, Goff threw his 67th career touchdown to Cooks on Sunday. He also has 27 career interceptions and a 62.1% completion percentage. Goff has averaged 12.9 yards per completion in each of his past two seasons, leading the NFL in that category in 2017.

The Rams rewarded Goff just before the season with a four-year, $134 million extension with $110 million guaranteed. The new contract keeps him tethered to the Rams through 2024 and set the NFL record for most guaranteed money on an extension. The new deal came months after the Philadelphia Eagles extended quarterback Carson Wentz, who they drafted just behind Goff with the No. 2 overall pick in 2016.

While 10,000 yards are now behind him, it looks like Goff will have the opportunity to double and even triple that in the coming seasons wearing a Rams jersey.
