The Los Angeles Rams took a significant leap forward in the 2017 NFL season that saw them earn their first playoff appearance and NFC West division title in well over a decade. A large part of that vast improvement was due in part to their explosive offense.

At the head of that was quarterback Jared Goff with a breakout campaign his second year in the league that has brought forth a bright future in Los Angeles. With that in mind, Goff has been named one of five under-the-radar candidates to win the MVP award in the 2018 NFL season by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report:

Quarterback Jared Goff made a noteworthy jump between the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.

As a rookie, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2016 draft didn’t complete 55 percent of his passes. In 2017, he resembled a skilled maestro leading a symphony. Goff tossed 28 touchdown passes and only seven interceptions. The California product moved the ball downfield in chunks, leading the league with 12.9 yards per completion.

Goff took a significant leap forward that saw him earn his first Pro Bowl selection by throwing for 3,804 yards on a 62.1 percent completion rate along with 28 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. This pushed him to finish fifth in the league in both touchdowns passes and passer rating (100.5) along with placing 10th in total passing yards.

The 23-year-old has a prime opportunity in front of him to build off that success on the field with another highly productive season where he could potentially lead the Rams back to the playoffs with possibly a deep run to the Super Bowl.

Los Angeles has kept a promising offensive unit around that has effective replaced Sammy Watkins with Brandin Cooks that provides him a proven wide receiver that will lead their young group of players at the position. The table could be indubitable lead to Goff taking the next step in his development toward being a star in the league.
