The Jared Goff era with the Los Angeles Rams has come to an end as the team reportedly traded him and draft picks to the Detroit Lions for Matthew Stafford in the first blockbuster move of the offseason.

While the timing of the trade this early in the offseason was a bit surprising, the Rams moving on from Goff wasn’t as Les Snead and Sean McVay were both noncommittal when talking about his future with the team after the divisional-round loss to the Green Bay Packers.

The Rams had some fond memories with Goff as their quarterback though as the former No. 1 overall pick led them to two division championships and three playoff wins, advancing as far as the Super Bowl in 2018.

At the end of the day though, the Rams saw an opportunity to upgrade at the most important position in football and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to acquire Stafford.

Although the trade won’t be official until the start of the new league year in March, Goff already took to social media to thank the Rams organization and fans as he gets set to head to Detroit:

Goff also recently expressed his excitement to be with a new organization that appreciates him, so it seems that this trade was best for all parties involved.

At just 25 years of age, Goff now has the opportunity to prove that he can be a successful quarterback with a coach other than McVay. There is no doubt that he will have a chip on his shoulder in 2021, and if all goes to plan, both he and Stafford can have success with their new teams.

As far as Goff’s time in L.A. goes though, it may not have ended how he wanted, but he still provided fans with plenty of memorable moments. He also did some outstanding work in the local community and should always be remembered for not only the player, but the person that he is.
