The Los Angeles Rams have made a number of personnel changes this offseason, mostly due to their lack of cap space and inability to retain key free agents.
The offseason has seen the departures of a number of key contributors from the last few seasons such as Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks, Cory Littleton, Dante Fowler Jr., Clay Matthews and Nickell Robey-Coleman.
L.A. did bring back some players as well, mostly on the offensive line as Andrew Whitworth and Austin Blythe both re-signed as free agents. With not much cap space at their disposal though, it appears they may need to clear some more money to complete all of their signings, which also include defensive players Michael Brockers, A’Shawn Robinson and Leonard Floyd.
One potential solution would be the restructure the contract of quarterback Jared Goff, who signed a big extension last offseason and has a 2020 cap hit of $36 million, which is the highest in the NFL.
If the Rams were to approach him to restructure, Goff said that he would be open to it, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press:
Rams QB Jared Goff on the possible restructuring of his contract, if it gives the team more cap space: "If so, I'm all for it. I don't see why not. It doesn't change anything for me, and it helps the team out."

If Goff and the Rams were to restructure his contract, he wouldn’t be losing any money. In fact, he likely would be getting more of it up front in the form of a signing bonus.
That would create some much-needed cap space for the Rams though, so it seems that it would make sense for all parties involved as they continue to build a roster good enough to compete in a tough NFC West division in 2020 and beyond.
