Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced that Jared Goff will be the team’s starting quarterback in the divisional round against the Green Bay Packers with John Wolford being ruled out due to a neck injury.

The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering Wolford was forced to go to the hospital after suffering the injury in the win over the Seattle Seahawks and then has not been able to practice at all this week.

With Wolford out, Blake Bortles will serve as Goff’s backup in the game, and McVay revealed that Bryce Perkins may be active as well to give them a third option.

While Goff will be starting in the game, it is important to remember that he is still just a couple of weeks removed from undergoing thumb surgery, which is why L.A. could dress three quarterbacks.

Goff came into the game against the Seahawks after Wolford went down, and although it was clear that his thumb was affecting his ability to throw the ball, he still toughed his way through it to secure the victory.

Goff completed 9-of-19 passes for 155 yards in that game, throwing one touchdown while also not turning the ball over. He will have to play at least that well again if the Rams want to beat a tough Packers team on the road.

Unfortunately, temperatures are expected to be in the 30s at Lambeau Field on Saturday afternoon, which creates another obstacle for Goff and his thumb. With the way his defense has been playing though, Goff may not have to do too much for L.A. to pull off the upset.
