Jared Goff Named Backup Quarterback Vs. Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams caused quite a stir in Week 1 when they decided to list rookie quarterback Jared Goff as inactive for their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Due to the lack of offense on display, many questioned whether or not keeping Goff on the sideline and out of uniform was the best idea.

However, that will not be the case in Week 2 when the Rams host the Seattle Seahawks for their Los Angeles debut as Goff has been listed as the backup quarterback behind Case Keenum. Although Goff is not expected to make an appearance barring any injury to Keenum, head coach Jeff Fisher says Goff is excited for the opportunity nonetheless:

“He’s really excited about it,” Fisher said. He’s ready to play if anything happens. It’s exciting for him, just knowing that he’s a snap away from going in the game.”

Since making the biggest jump in NFL Draft history to acquire who they feel is going to be their future franchise quarterback, Fisher has preached nothing but patience with Goff. The reason Fisher was so adamant about taking their time with Goff’s development was because he felt the Rams were extremely capable of competing for a playoff spot this season.

However, that idea drastically changed after the 28-0 beating Los Angeles took against San Francisco. Although the Rams are confident they can bounce back this week versus the Seahawks, it is apparent that Goff will need to speed up his progression if he expects to take snaps at some point this season.
