The Los Angeles Rams suffered a slight road bump when they lost to the Buffalo Bills after a riding a division-best 3-1 record into the matchup.
Although it was a game that could have gone either way, the loss was magnified by both a crucial interception by Case Keenum and some questionable play-calling by head coach Jeff Fisher. Along with the growing success of a number of rookie quarterbacks throughout the league such as Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz or Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott has prompted discussion about whether or not Jared Goff is any closer to taking over as the starter within the coming weeks.
However, Goff has not become too discouraged with the early success of other fellow rookie quarterbacks and feels he has progressed every day according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN:
“Every situation is different,” Goff said, via ESPN.com. “All these guys that are doing well right now I’m very happy for. Most of them I’m good friends with, and they’ve done a really good job. I’m very happy for them. … I’ve felt good every day. I think I’ve progressed ever since I got here, and I don’t think I’ve ever really plateaued or gone backwards. I think I’ve gotten better every time, every week, every day. So I feel good.”
While it may pain Los Angeles to see the likes of Wentz and Prescott flourishing so early on, Goff’s situation differs vastly from that of their current situations. Every rookie quarterback outside of Goff became the starter due to injuries sustained by the teams’ original first-stringers which includes Denver Broncos’ Paxton Lynch and Cleveland Browns’ Cody Kessler.
However, with the current state of the Rams offense, the question becomes when will the team begin to consider throwing in their coveted draft pick they spent the farm to get. Fortunately for the Rams, offensive coordinator Rob Boras feels Goff has taken the necessary strides to getting on the field sooner rather than later:
“He’s starting to ask those more advanced, if you will, say, the 301- or 401-type questions. So for me, it starts there.”
The Rams will be away from home for the next two weeks as they travel to face the Detroit Lions before heading across the pond to take on the New York Giants in London.
