The Los Angeles Rams got back in the win column this past Sunday with a much-needed victory over a disappointing Atlanta Falcons team. The Rams executed at all three phases of the game and were able to come away with a 37-10 road win to move to 4-3 on the year.
Jared Goff and the offense finally began to resemble the juggernaut the league is used to seeing as he was able to connect with all his pass catchers for big plays. The defense was equally impressive, holding Matt Ryan and Julio Jones in check by generating pressure upfront and forcing some rushed throws.
Newly acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey made his debut for the Rams and looked every bit the star defensive back the team hoped they would be getting as he bothered Jones all afternoon in coverage.
Ahead of their Week 8 matchup in London against the Cincinnati Bengals, Ramsey seemed optimistic he would be able to make an impact despite still learning the playbook, via Gary Klein of L.A. Times:
“I’ve been able to play well over there,” he said Wednesday. “Hopefully, I can again come Sunday.”
The cornerback also added that he believes he has built himself a small fanbase across the pond, although he joked he is not expecting to see many of his Rams jerseys since the trade just took place:
“I would say so, but I don’t know if them Rams [No.] 20 jerseys dropped yet,” he said. “So I don’t expect to see many of those out there.
Since being traded to the Rams, Ramsey has flown from Jacksonville to Los Angeles, and then to Atlanta and finally to London. He does not believe all of that travel will affect his play though:
“I’m good,” he said when asked about the whirlwind travel. “It’s just a part of the process.”
The Florida State product has already made three trips to London in his short career when he was part of the Jacksonville Jaguars and played well in each appearance. Against the Bengals, he should find even more success as Cincinnati is still winless on the season and has yet to show any signs of life on either end of the field.
Ramsey’s ability to stick with receivers one-on-one has opened up more combinations and looks for Wade Phillips to use as he has proven to dial up great defensive plans when able to comfortably deploy man coverage. This should make Los Angeles’ defense even more dangerous to play against as Ramsey continues to get himself acclimated.
Another win would go a long way in rebuilding the team’s confidence and establishing some momentum before heading into their bye week and Ramsey figures to be a key part in achieving that.
