With training camp around the corner, there have been countless rankings made by position leading up to the 2021 NFL season. Los Angeles Rams star cornerback Jalen Ramsey finds himself atop most of them thanks to his display of dominance in recent years.
While there is no shortage of talented cornerbacks in the league, Ramsey’s track record versus some of the NFL’s elite wideouts has helped separate him from the pack.
Regardless, Ramsey has never been shy about making his own rankings of the NFL’s hierarchy. It appears he has an idea of how the pecking order shakes out this time around.
Ramsey gave his list of the Top-5 DBs slotted in behind him during an appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast:
“This is tough, too, because I’ve got a lot of respect for a lot of DBs because it ain’t really me against them. It’s me against the receiver, so I’ve got a lot of respect for them,” he said. “Everybody’s got their different styles so my top five, off my opinion and my style – like, who I like to watch and even who I would like to team up with if I had the chance: Stephon Gilmore, I like his style. Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills. I’ll go Xavien Howard. And I’ll go Jaire Alexander, Green Bay.”
Aside from being the league’s premier shutdown corner, it is clear that Ramsey is also an avid fan of the game. He even has a tendency to throw in a recruiting pitch to fellow elite players of the position in the event they are made available in the near future.
Ramsey helped lead the league’s No. 1 defense alongside tackle Aaron Donald during the 2020 campaign. He is expected to once again serve as a stabilizing factor for a secondary that experienced some significant changes with the departure of John Johnson and Troy Hill in free agency.
Not only that, but this group also experienced some quick turnover at defensive coordinator after bringing in Raheem Morris to replace Brandon Staley. Despite all the changes, expectations remain as high as ever on this side of the ball.
Ramsey has a star-studded cast of wideouts to face in the 2021 campaign such as DeAndre Hopkins, Davante Adams and Mike Evans just to name a few. This will be an opportunity for him to provide yet another reminder of his status as the best cornerback in the NFL.
