The kicking game has been a struggle for the Los Angeles Rams this year as they very well could be undefeated if they executed all of their kicks.
Joshua Karty has missed the most kicks in the league so far this season as he is 10-for-15 on field goals and 23-of-26 on extra points.
Not all of it is his fault as the Rams have also struggled to protect, leading to some blocked kicks. Despite that though, the Rams brought in some competition for Karty this week as they signed Harrison Mevis to their practice squad.
After the signing, Rams head coach Sean McVay let it be known that he would let Karty and Mevis compete in practice this week before deciding who would be the team’s kicker for their Week 11 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
It appears McVay has made his decision and Mevis won the competition, per Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

While Mevis will be kicking this week, he has not won the full-time job yet as McVay added that Karty will be sticking around:

The Rams are a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations and the one thing currently holding them back from that is an effective kicking game. With that being the case, it makes sense to give Mevis a shot to see if he can help fix that moving forward.
With Karty sticking around though, it seems the Rams will continue to evaluate things on a week to week basis before making an ultimate decision.
This week’s matchup with the 49ers is a big one as the Rams have already lost to their rivals earlier in the season, so the hope is that Mevis will do his job so missed kicks don’t impact the final outcome for L.A.
Puka Nacua and Darious Williams expected to play in Rams game vs. 49ers
The Rams are looking for some revenge on the 49ers and luckily, their roster will be close to full strength on Sunday as Sean McVay revealed that he expects both Puka Nacua and Darious Williams to be able to play.
Nacua hurt his ribs in the Rams’ Week 9 win over the New Orleans Saints, but it’s good to see that the injury won’t force him to miss any time.
