The Los Angeles Rams are hoping for a miracle heading into Week 16. After dropping their last game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Rams playoff hopes dwindled and they now face a must-win matchup with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.
The Rams big win against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 renewed hope for a late-season push to the playoffs, but their recent loss complicates things. To make matters worse, the Rams could be down one of their important players for their upcoming game against the 49ers.
According to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com, head coach Sean Mcvay revealed that Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein suffered a quad injury in the loss to the Cowboys and will be monitored for the rest of the week:
Additionally, kicker Greg Zuerlein suffered a “low-strain quad” against the Cowboys, but McVay said they expect him to be able to play against the 49ers. The team is preparing other options in the event Zuerlein is unable to go on Saturday.
“We’ll kick him later in the week and see how he’s feeling,” McVay said.
Zuerlein had a quiet night against the Cowboys, only attempting one extra point kick and no field goals. In what has been a rocky season for nearly every member of the Rams, Zuerlein has struggled a bit as well, converting 22 of 29 field goals while making every extra point.
Should Zuerlein miss the game, the Rams will be in need of a kicker and would turn to the free agent market to find one. Last year, Sam Ficken and Cairo Santos were brought in when Zuerlein was injured but both have since moved on to different teams.
The Rams will be in for a tough game as they head to San Francisco to take on one of the best defenses in the NFL. The hope is that Zuerlein will be ready to go as the Rams will need every point they can get.
