Rams News: Eric Weddle To Become High School Football Coach After Retiring From NFL
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The last couple of months have been a storybook ending to a potential Hall of Fame for Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle.

Weddle originally retired from the NFL after playing for the Rams in the 2019 season, although after both of their starting safeties, Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp, got hurt in Week 18, he came out of retirement to help his old team for the postseason run.

Not only was Weddle in good enough shape to play immediately, but he wound up leading the team in tackles against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game and then was the team’s defensive signal-caller against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl, playing just about every snap.

Weddle was a big part in the Rams eventually winning the Super Bowl, playing through a torn pectoral muscle that would have most players out of the game.

Now that it is all over though. Weddle returns to his normal life in the San Diego area. It was actually recently announced that he is planning to becoming a high school football coach, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Weddle announced immediately after the Super Bowl that he would retire once again, and this time for good after accomplishing his final goal of winning a championship.

This next chapter is perfect for Weddle as it will allow him to stay around the game and use his wealth of football knowledge to teach the local youth.

While Weddle now returns to his normal life, what he accomplished over the last two months is something that will never be forgotten.
