Despite plenty of talk about competing for the playoffs for the 2016-17 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams got off to a bad start after suffering a humiliating 28-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.
As they get ready to face an NFC powerhouse in the Seattle Seahawks in their long-awaited Los Angeles debut, Rams legend Eric Dickerson sees this as an opportunity for this team to bounce back.
Dickerson pulled no punches when discussing the current nature of the city’s new team on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football:
“The city is happy. You know, the one thing about Los Angeles is you got to win,” Dickerson said. “That’s the No. 1 thing, you’ve got to win in that city. And what they showed Monday night was an embarrassment. As a football team, they got to pick themselves up for the Seattle Seahawks and kind of get it back together.”
With all that went wrong for the Rams in the season opener, it is difficult for fans to find any silver lining, especially offensively. Dickerson went on to reiterate that while this is indeed a young squad, the lack of progression is starting to become all too familiar with the past:
“I’ve been saying from Day 1 to the fans, ‘Be patient, this is a young football team,” said the Hall of Fame running back. “But you can’t live by that. They’ve been saying that for the last four, five years … but hey, you’ve got to keep some veterans on the team. You’ve got to have some leaders on that team.”
Los Angeles made some surprising decisions both this offseason and training camp by releasing a number of veteran players.
Although a victory this weekend may seem like a tall order, the Rams have fared well against the Seahawks as of late, winning three of their last four meetings.
