The Los Angeles Rams announced Thursday that they have claimed rookie defensive back Marqui Christian off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals ahead off the two teams’ matchup on Sunday.
Christian was a fifth round pick in 2016 out of Midwestern State. In 2016 he was named the Lone Star Conference’s Top Male Athlete. He also earned the Cliff Harris Award in 2015, given to the Small College Defensive Player of the Year.
While Christian was on Arizona’s 53-man roster, he did not dress for any of the team’s first three games. As a corresponding move the Rams waived safety Isaiah Johnson.
Johnson went undrafted in 2015 out of Georgia Tech and signed with the Detroit Lions where he was remained on the practice squad until November of that year before being signed to the active roster.
He was waived by the Lions in September of the year and soon after was signed to the Rams practice squad until being signed to the active roster on Sept. 23.
Whether Christian will suit up for Sunday’s game against his former team remains in question.
