The final day of the 2024 NFL Draft took place on Saturday and the Los Angeles Rams found themselves back on the clock six more times.
After moving up on Day 2 to select Braden Fiske at No. 39, the Rams didn’t make their first selection until the fifth round where they took Washington State defensive end Brennan Jackson at No. 155. Jackson, a Southern California native from Temecula, continued the trend from general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay to build along their defensive line.
Jackson projects as a rotational pass rusher, but will likely see most of his snaps on special teams in 2024.
After Aaron Donald retired from the NFL, defensive tackle became a glaring need for Los Angeles. Although the team seemingly partially addressed the tackle spot by taking Fiske, the Rams added more depth behind him by taking Clemson defensive tackle Tyler Davis at No. 196.
Davis was one of the most experienced players remaining in the draft as he spent five seasons with the Tigers. Like Jackson, he will likely compete for a rotational role as a nose tackle and on special teams.
After spending most of their draft picks on the defensive side of the football, L.A. addressed their dire need at the kicker position when they took Stanford kicker Joshua Karty at No. 209. The Rams missed a league-leading 16 field goals and PAT attempts and desperately needed a player who can deliver on special teams.
Karty was considered one of the best kickers in this year’s draft class and taking him at the tail-end of the sixth round made plenty of sense.
The Rams then took their first offensive player since the third round at No. 213 with Texas wide receiver Jordan Whittington. A bigger receiver with a sturdy frame, Whittington should compete for a roster spot.
Sticking with the offense, L.A. then went offensive line at No. 217 with Arkansas interior linemen Beaux Limmer.
Limmer split time between center and guard and provides valuable depth for the offensive line room.
With their final pick of the day at No. 254, the Rams went right back to the offensive line and took tackle KT Leveston out of Kansas. Leveston was a road grader in college but is expected to move inside to guard.
Rams take Blake Corum and Kamren Kinchens in third round of 2024 NFL Draft
After moving up in the second round, the Rams wound up staying put at No. 83 and No. 99 in the third round. At 83, Los Angeles took running back Blake Corum, who was one of the most productive and decorated running backs in the draft. Listed at 5’7″ and 208 pounds, Corum has a similar player profile to Kyren Williams and McVay noted that was be design.
At No. 99, L.A. went right back to the defense and took Miami safety Kamren Kinchens. Kinchens was highly productive for the Hurricanes and has excellent positional versatility as he can play either at the line of scrimmage or in coverage.
