The Los Angeles Rams made a splash at the trade deadline with the acquisition of Dante Fowler Jr. It appears he is just as eager to prove himself in Los Angeles as they are to have him.
Fowler has an opportunity to make an immediate impact on this Rams defense. He said he is hoping to earn the trust of his new star teammates, according to Rams:
“I’ve been looking at AD when he was at Pitt and Brockers when he was at LSU dominating and stuff like that. And, of course, Suh when he was at Nebraska,” Fowler said. “So these guys that I looked up to, I already know their style of game and the way that they play. I’m just ready to come in and show these guys that they can trust me and they know that I’m going to be able to come in here and I’m going to work and they can depend on me.”
It appears Fowler is already well-acquainted with his new teammates. Aaron Donald also recently admitted that he was smiling from ‘ear-to-ear’ when he heard about the trade. Their rapport will certainly go a long way in helping to take this already-formidable group to the next level.
It is no secret that Fowler has endured a rocky start to his career. The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft had a rough time fitting the billing of a premier pass-rusher alongside a star-studded Jaguars defense. He has registered just nine tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovery almost exclusively in third-down situations throughout the 2018 NFL season.
However, it is clear that both sides are hoping he can become an every-down player from here on out. It would certainly make sense considering Los Angeles gave up two draft picks for a player that will be a free agent after the season.
