Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey made his highly-anticipated debut against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7 of the 2019 NFL season just days after being traded by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Regardless, Ramsey played an integral role in the 37-10 victory over Atlanta after notching four tackles and a forced fumble. However, the best part of the day was seeing him battle with wide receiver Julio Jones in the passing game.
The showdown between these two All-Pros provided one of the more intriguing matchups of the season thus far. It appears linebacker Cory Littleton got a kick out of watching his new teammate go at Jones.
Littleton admits that it was entertaining to see Ramsey taking trash to Jones throughout the game, via Gary Klein of the L.A. Times:
“It was a good show for the fans and for myself, whenever I got a chance to look back,” Littleton, chuckling, told reporters at the team hotel. “He’s a great addition to this team, and he did his job.”
Wide receiver Robert Woods added that Ramsey’s ability to put his money where his mouth provides another interesting dynamic to the defense:
“You just got to be tough-skinned,” Woods said. “Jalen is definitely one who goes at you all game, about your socks, your cleats, whatever it is he’s got a problem with.
“If you take it personal, and really like feed into it, I think he’ll definitely keep going and he’ll go all game.”
Ramsey’s boisterous personality both on and off the field are part of what helped him establish himself as one of the premier shutdown corners in the NFL. It is safe to say that he is one of the few players that can actually talk the talk and walk the walk.
Even though he was operating on a short week in an entirely different scheme, Ramsey did not shy away from letting himself be heard by Jones. It is encouraging to see that he has made quite the impression on his new teammates and his style of play is seemingly being embraced by those in Los Angeles.
The Rams paid a heavy price tag in order to bring him over from the Jaguars and are slated to potentially make an even bigger investment in the near future to secure him for the long haul. Ramsey’s aggressive approach has clearly made him an ideal fit for a defense that has no shortage of gritty players such as Littleton, defensive tackle Aaron Donald and safety Eric Weddle.
