When the Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms with Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson on a three-year, $45 million contract last week, there was speculation the team could look to trade Robert Woods. That became a reality over the weekend as the Rams sent the veteran wide receiver to the Tennessee Titans for a 2023 sixth-round draft pick.

The move was financially motivated as L.A. freed up $7.1 million in cap space that can now be allocated to other free agents. The Rams also avoided having to pay Woods a $3.5 million roster bonus, which was due the following day.

Woods emerged as a fan favorite and respected leader inside the locker room during his time with the Rams, which makes the trade a difficult one for everyone involved. The Southern California native’s contributions went beyond the stat sheet as he made a positive impact on many of his teammates.

The group includes Cooper Kupp, who deemed Woods the heart and soul of the Rams in a heartfelt message on Twitter:

Woods and Kupp not only formed a dynamic duo at wide receiver for the Rams, but a friendship that will last a lifetime. The two joined the organization in 2017 and have been close ever since.

Woods appeared in nine games last season before sustaining a season-ending ACL injury in Week 9, catching 45 of his 69 targets for 556 yards and four touchdowns. In five seasons with the Rams, he caught 367 passes for 4,626 yards and 23 touchdowns over 68 games (67 starts).

Woods expects to be fully recovered by the start of minicamp, which for the Titans begins in mid-June.
