Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month for the second straight month in October.
He becomes the only Rams receiver to win the award twice in his career, let alone in back-to-back weeks. Torry Holt (October, 2003), Isaac Bruce (October, 1995) and Henry Ellard (December, 1988) are the only other Rams wide receivers to earn the honor.
In five October games, Kupp recorded 38 receptions for 557 yards and five touchdowns. Overall in eight games on the season, Kupp has 63 receptions for 924 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He became the first player in the Super Bowl era with 900 or more receiving yards and 10 or more receiving touchdowns through the first eight games and is currently on pace to finish with almost 2,000 receiving yards. The NFL record, set by Calvin Johnson in 2012, is 1,964.
While Kupp is currently playing at a historic pace, a lot of it is a team effort, and he would be the first to say that. He likely wouldn’t be recording these stats without quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has remained upright this season due to the strong play of the offensive line.
The Rams’ other weapons have also played well, which doesn’t allow teams to double and triple-team Kupp on a regular basis.
So even though it’s Kupp that’s been named NFC Offensive Player of the Month in back-to-back months now, it’s really a credit to the work the entire offense is doing right now, which has allowed the Rams to start off the season with an impressive 7-1 record.
