The Los Angeles Rams went into the offseason with limited cap space, but that didn’t stop them from making a couple of splashes in free agency. Among them was signing Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson to a three-year contract.
Robinson is coming off a down year with the Chicago Bears but has an impressive resume that includes three 1,000-plus receiving yard seasons. He gives the Rams a legitimate deep threat down the field, which is something they have lacked in recent seasons.
With organized team activities beginning this week, the Rams have gotten their first look at Robinson and the impact he can make on the field. He has already impressed the likes of Matthew Stafford and head coach Sean McVay.
Cooper Kupp is among the other members of the Rams organization excited to have Robinson on the team as they prepare to defend their Super Bowl title, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“He’s a lot bigger than I think people think that he is,” Kupp said earlier this week. “He’s a big dude that can do a lot of things that smaller receivers do. He’s got great feet, can put his foot in the ground, run the underneath routes, do the options, the choice routes. All the different stuff that we do in this offense, he’s gonna be able to do all that stuff. I’m exciting about being able to have someone like that, that can do all those things and be a big body, big target.”
While Robinson’s physical attributes immediately stood out to Kupp, the Super Bowl LVI MVP was blown away with his work ethic:
“He’s much more nuanced than I think he’s probably known for, and I’m really excited for him in this offense to be able to put that stuff to use,” Kupp said.
Robinson is entering his eighth NFL season, but one can make a case that he has never played with a quarterback as talented as Stafford or a wide receiver as skilled as Kupp. For those reasons, it is easy to see why so many Rams players are thrilled to have Robinson on board.
