Rams News: Cooper Kupp Breaks Isaac Bruce’s Single-Season Receiving Yards Record

Cooper Kupp broke the Los Angeles Rams’ single-season receiving record in their victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17.

Kupp’s fourth catch of the game against the Ravens –a 21-yard gain– was enough to surpass the previous record held by Rams legend Isaac Bruce, who recorded 1,781 receiving yards in 1995. Kupp finished the day with six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown and now sits at 1,829 receiving yards during the 2021 season.

The former third-round pick has been setting the NFL ablaze this season and is now within striking distance of breaking the league’s single-season receiving yards record (1,964) set by Calvin Johnson during the 2012 season. Kupp would need to bring in 136 yards in Week 18 against their rivals the San Francisco 49ers, but it is not impossible as the wideout has a season-high of 163 yards that he recorded back in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.

While not the fastest or biggest receiver, Kupp is a technician who is able to beat defenders in a multitude of ways and he is widely regarded as one of the best route runners in the NFL. However, even though Kupp is a threat anywhere he lines up he is also incredibly unselfish as he is often seen setting the edges for the running game as a blocker.

Every week, it seems like Kupp makes history and it is a testament to his talent and hard work as well as his connection with Matthew Stafford. Despite losing Robert Woods for the year, Kupp has been able to keep the Rams offense humming and there are no signs of him slowing down as the 2022 NFL playoffs come around the corner.

Coincidentally, it was Stafford who helped Johnson set the current receiving yards record and it will be up to him again to help Kupp etch his name in NFL lore forever.
