Despite the extra preparation during the bye week, the Los Angeles Rams were once again trounced by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8.
The Rams got off to an encouraging start in the first half by putting together two long scoring drives. However, the second half was an entirely different story as they failed to score when San Francisco’s defense tightened up.
On Los Angeles’ final drive of the game, Cooper Kupp was injured on a play that brought the trainers onto the field. However, Kupp was able to get up and walk off and said he was feeling alright following the loss, via Arash Markazi of Sporting Tribune:
“Doing alright now. We’ll know more the next few days just to figure out what exactly’s going on, but I feel pretty good right now.”
Kupp stayed down for several minutes, and it seemed like he was seriously hurt. Despite that, he believes he avoided a major injury:
“Right now everything’s…things are pointing towards dodging a bullet, so hopefully that’s the case and we move forward here. But like I said, I feel pretty good right now.”
It was hard to see what happened in real time but Kupp said he got rolled up on at the end of the play:
“I just got rolled up a little. Foot got caught, but I think I was able to slide out of there before there was too much damage done. We’ll see what these next few days how it responds.”
Sean McVay went on to confirm on Monday that Kupp avoided serious injury, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
Rams HC Sean McVay said WR Cooper Kupp is dealing with soft tissue swelling with his ankle. Nothing is structurally wrong.
"I think he'll be OK."
McVay said he anticipates Kupp playing vs. Bucs on Sunday.

Injuries have not been kind to the Rams during the 2022 season, but losing Kupp for any period of time would put a serious damper on their playoff hopes. While things seem initially encouraging for his availability for Week 9, the team will know more later in the week after undergoing tests and evaluations.
