Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Byron Young was recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September.

It’s a well-deserved honor for Young, who has taken his game to another level in his third season with the Rams. In four games in the month of September, Young recorded 23 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, one forced fumble, 16 quarterback pressures and 5.0 sacks.

Young is currently tied for the league lead in sacks and has recorded at least one in each of the Rams’ games so far.

Here are Young’s top highlights from the first month of the season, via the Rams’ official X account:

It’s obviously still very early in the season, but so far the Rams’ young defense has been one of the best in the league and is seemingly getting better with each week.

Young has played a big role in that, but he is not alone as Jared Verse, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, Poona Ford and others have made big contributions on the defensive line. Then on the back end, linebackers Nate Landman and Omar Speights have emerged as legit starters while Kam Curl, Kam Kinchens and Quentin Lake have been holding it down in the secondary.

As a result, the Rams defense is top 10 in total yards allowed, passing yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, points allowed, sacks and takeaways.

Other Rams to be honored this season

Byron Young isn’t the only Rams player to take home an NFL honor so far this year as Nate Landman was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1 and then Puka Nacua was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 4.
